inSORS Delivers Multiple Office AccessGrid Systems to UCAR/NCAR

September 26, 2003

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) announced the purchase of 11 Executive Station AccessGrid (AG) nodes for deployment throughout their three Boulder, CO area campuses. The Executive Station is a small conference room configuration that enables 4-6 people to engage in immersive collaborations via video, audio and data sharing modes of interaction.

The 11 AG nodes will be used in conjunction with the custom Enterprise Manager that was purchased earlier. The AG nodes will be used for internal UCAR/NCAR meetings and the Enterprise Manager will allow for multiple simultaneous events to occur without the need for a multipoint control unit. UCAR/NCAR plans to extend this service to its over sixty Member Universities and Member Sponsors. The goal is to enable research project collaborations among the institutions and accelerate decision-making processes through the inclusion of remote experts. The AG nodes will also take advantage of the robust network connections provided by Internet2.
