The National Library of Medicine Continues
Commitment to inSORS Grid Solutions
Extends Support Contract for the inSORS Grid 2
June 29, 2006
(Bethesda, MD) The National Library of Medicine (NLM), a division of the National Institutes of Health, continues its use of the inSORS Grid product (IG2) to enhance communications between facilities, partners and other NIH divisions. The NLM is also a member of the Internet2 consortium and uses the advance research network to collaborate with over two hundred colleges and universities. The IG will be used at the NLM to bring together key decision makers for immersive high-level meetings via multi-point video, audio and data sharing. The IG runs on any standard PC and securely over any IP network thus there are no recurring use charges. The IG2 will not only enhance internal collaboration between the NLM and its remote locations, but will also reduce travel requirements for those employees using the system. See below for further information on both the NLM and inSORS.
About the NLM
The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials in all areas of biomedicine and health care, as well as works on biomedical aspects of technology, the humanities, and the physical, life, and social sciences. The collections stand at more than 8 million items--books, journals, technical reports, manuscripts, microfilms, photographs and images. Housed within the Library is one of the world's finest medical history collections of old and rare medical works. The Library's collection may be consulted in the reading room or requested on interlibrary loan. NLM is a national resource for all U.S. health science libraries through a National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
