Mayo Clinic deploys IG node for Rural Health Care Initiative
October 12, 2006 (Rochester, MN) The world famous Mayo Clinic has deployed a room based inSORS Grid (IG) node to facilitate communications to rural health sites that may not have the expertise in certain medical specialties. The rural health initiative is an National Institute of Health (NIH) funded project and involves other Minnesota institutions as well as partners in the United Kingdom. The goal of the project is to use advanced network and collaborative technologies to bring medical expertise to regions that are lacking in complete medical care institutions.
The NIH has identified a possible short fall in rural based communities’ access to certain medical personnel and is looking into ways of alleviating these short comings. The inSORS IG solution is a multi-site, software based video, audio and data sharing system that is ideally suited for such distributed projects. The IG will be used in both room based and desktop form factors, keeping the overall cost of the system to a minimum.
