Medstar Health deploys multiple IG nodes for Connected OR Initiative
October 22, 2006 (Washington, DC) Medstar Health, a Washington DC/Baltimore region health system has deployed an inSORS Grid (IG) server and several desktop endpoints to bolster communications between the various hospital locations. The systems will be placed in the operating rooms to increase access to expertise in cases of difficult to handle emergencies. The IG is a multipoint, software based video, audio and data sharing platform that runs on any standard PC and over any IP network including the Public Internet and wireless broadband connections. The IG is ideally suited for such immersive multi-site collaborations. The inSORS Unified Collaboration Grid server will be installed on the Medstar network and will allow for both internal WAN based communications as well as for connections to outside nodes.

Now, the Internet2 Commons is sponsoring Collaboranza!--a special one-week opportunity for the Internet2 community to explore a handful of the leading collaboration tool-suites. Participants will have the chance to try out each product for free with other educators and researchers from May 8-12, 2006. A concurrent H.323 videoconference will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. EDT through the duration of the event, in order for participants to test which of the products are truly capable of inter-operating through an H.323 bridge.
