The University of Liverpool deploys inSORS Solution
University to collaborate on UK Bio-Health Initiatives
March 18, 2005
(Liverpool, UK) The University of Liverpool has deployed an inSORS Grid solution to participate in the National Institute for Bio-Health Informatics (NIBHI). This collaborative project was funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
The University of Manchester led the successful bid for funding to establish the NIBHI. The central mission of NIBHI is to facilitate the application of Bio-Health Informatics theory into practice and to ensure that Bio-Health Informatics research is informed by the needs of the biological and clinical research communities and those of the regional pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector. The Institute will form a focal point for the coordination of Northwest Bio-Health Informatics research, development and training, facilitating collaborative activities within and between the academic, industrial and health communities.
NIBHI is creating an environment to foster the convergence of Bio- and Health Informatics across the region and strengthen the Bio-Health Informatics interfaces between industry, academia and the health service. A steering committee is overseeing the establishment of NIBHI, will evaluate its performance and will guide its future strategy. The steering committee includes representatives from the Universities of Manchester/ UMIST, Liverpool, Lancaster, Central Lancashire (UCLan), Salford, the Liverpool John Moores University (JMU) and AstraZeneca. NIBHI will form the focal point for the coordination of research and training activities in the Northwest, creating an appropriate environment for collaborative, cross-disciplinary research and training, and generating the right supportive climate for scientific innovation and entrepreneurship.
