Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Installs inSORS Grid Collaboration Rooms

COLLEGE STATION - The Texas A&M Research Foundation has installed additional inSORS Grid multimedia collaboration room systems in order to increase collaboration capability between College Station and other sites associated with the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program/U.S. Implementing Organization.

As part of the Joint Oceanographic Institutions Alliance, Texas A&M, Columbia’s Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, and teams at the JOI offices in Washington D.C. form the U.S. Implementing Organization (USIO).  The USIO is responsible for managing core drilling operations in order to facilitate geoscience, climate, oceanographic, and other research.

The USIO group previously installed systems to connect the three primary locations with the drill ship, JOIDES Resolution, in order to facilitate real-time collaboration with offshore operations via satellite.  The JOIDES Resolution will be overhauled starting in January with updated equipment and research facilities and will be resume operations Q3 2007.  The additional room collaboration systems were installed to increase collaboration during the interim planning phase.

inSORS, based in Chicago with operations in Detroit, New York, Houston, London, and Brussels, supports enterprise unified collaboration software and solutions that enable multiple groups and individuals to interact with high-quality video, voice, and data.
