International Medical Program
uses IG for Cross Border Collaboration
IG Sessions between Poland, Ukraine and New York
November 25, 2004
(New York) International Medical Programs (IMP) of Albany NY uses the inSORS Grid (IG) software based collaboration platform to help conduct high-level medical training forums between hospitals in New York, Poland, and Ukraine. These live sessions involve doctors at each site sharing their expertise on topics such as congestive heart failure to advance 'best practices' understanding. A key objective has been to demonstrate how new technologies like the IG can improve medical services to remote areas and facilities; for example, the Eastern Europe sites are widely dispersed military and civilian hospitals.
IMP has expertise in designing and delivering multimedia educational conferences; they develop both the content and infrastructure systems required for international services. Given this challenge, IMP has utilized the inSORS Grid to reduce travel to Europe, and to increase the effectiveness of the conferences. A case in point: from his office in Albany, the IMP Production Manager, Chris Lenaghan, uses the IG to manage the on-site activity of field engineers instead of going to Poland-Ukraine for this as in the past. Chris uses the IG as both a 'back-door' communications channel with the field team, and as a vehicle for participant video collaboration. He interchangeably uses the video streams, audio, private chat, web publishing and data sharing to connect with the remote participants. All this is accomplished over broadband Internet using low cost cameras and audio gear along with the inSORS software. IMP anticipates expanding their usage of inSORS, especially given the capabilities of IG v5.0.
