Honolulu, Hawaii– The Pacific Telehealth and Technology HUI has chosen inSORS’ IG2 platform for multiple locations in its ongoing program. The Hui conducts research, develops prototypes, demonstrates, tests, evaluates, validates, then disseminates and institutionalizes telehealth applications in support of the health and medical needs of beneficiaries in the Pacific. The Hui will use the immersive collaborative features of the IG2 to enhance these procedures. The Hui then works to make these technologies and systems available to other federal, public, and private organizations through its emerging technology transfer program. The IG2 will also receive exposure in the growing telehealth specialty field.
The Hui is a unique form of two organizations with different histories, cultures, and missions coming together in pursuit of a common set of goals. The Hui supports co-operation and collaboration with public and private healthcare providers and institutions in research, education and training, and telehealth projects.
The Hui is run out of Tripler Army Medical Center. Tripler is the largest military medical treatment facility in the entire Pacific Basin. Located a short distance from Waikiki, Tripler's area of responsibility spans more than 52 percent of the entire earth's surface. It is the only Army medical center in the Pacific.
Tripler's service region includes Hawaii, Japan, Johnston Atoll, Guam, Eniwetok, Kwajalein, various Pacific Island Nations and American Samoa. Tripler is a major teaching center that provides graduate education programs in pharmacy, medicine, general surgery, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, radiology, pathology, urology, oral surgery, hospital administration and anesthesiology nursing. Also included are obstetrics and gynecology-nursing courses.
The staff is dedicated to providing state-of-the art medicine with state-of-the-art technology. The Pacific Telehealth and Technology HUI is involved in a variety of telehealth projects. Hui is a Hawaiian word meaning group or partner.
The Hui's focus is on the prototyping, demonstration and validation of Telehealth initiatives carried out in the only tri-service telemedicine test bed in the Pacific.
