CERMUSA serves Remote and Medically Underserved Areas

February 16, 2004

Chicago, IL --- inSORS Integrated Communications, Inc., a Chicago-based communications firm that develops, markets, and supports collaboration software and solutions, is delivering an inSORS Grid system along with a network bridging solution to the Center of Excellence for Remote and Medically Underserved Areas (CERMUSA) located at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. CERMUSA was conceived in response to the need for improved medical care and education in remote or medically under-served areas. CERMUSA was established as a testing, evaluation, demonstration and assessment center for identifying "best practices" in providing healthcare services and education utilizing appropriate, available technology. The research agenda includes tracking noteworthy projects and emerging technologies and conducting experiments in specially created electronic classrooms and computer laboratories. The "best practices" anticipated to be identified were in areas related to training and education, telemedicine, and technological support for healthcare providers and potential providers in remote, medically under-served areas. CERMUSA plans to use the inSORS Grid to enhance the effectiveness of the work in this arena.

The IG platform provides an innovative, state-of-the-art conferencing and collaboration solution that offers complete IP-based, full-duplex audio, 30 frame-per-second video, and total data interaction/sharing capabilities among anywhere from two to 30 locations. The Virtual Venue will be hosted on the inSORS network and provides CERMUSA the ability to conduct up to 10 virtual meetings simultaneously in private secure rooms. Additionally, CERMUSA has the ability to connect with over 200 organizations throughout the world that have enabled the same technology. The network bridging solution that will reside on CERMUSA's network provides uni-cast connectivity for sites that do not have a multicast enabled network.

The inSORS solution provides easy and stable access for CERMUSA and its partners. With the increased interest in medically underserved areas, the inSORS solution can be a valuable communication tool for those in remote locations. Additionally, this technology can assist the staff and doctors with remote analysis and evaluations, along with collaboration with experts from around the world.
