Canadian Universities add two more IG2 Advanced Collaboration Rooms
December 18, 2006
Two prominent Canada based universities have deployed room based inSORS Grid 2 (IG2) nodes to enhance collaborative efforts between the institutions and with other higher educational institutions throughout the world. The two “Advanced Collaboration Environments” or “ACE Rooms” were deployed at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Both institutions will collaborate on advanced research network initiatives with project partners at Memorial University in Newfoundland and St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The IG2 ACE rooms are software based multi-point video, audio and data conferencing systems that run on any standard PC and over any IP network. The ACE rooms are fully integrated with multiple displays, cameras and microphones for a comfortable distributed meeting experience. See below for further information on St. Mary’s, Mount Allison and inSORS.
About St. Mary’s:
Since its founding in 1802, Saint Mary's developed into a modern, urban university with more than 7,500 full and part-time students. It is the oldest English-speaking, Roman Catholic initiated university in Canada. Saint Mary's has inherited from its predecessors, a strong commitment to meeting community needs and an equally strong tradition of emphasizing excellence in teaching and research. Saint Mary's offers a unique university experience. Graduates describe it best when they talk about the spirit of the Saint Mary's community and school pride, the quality of the programs, and the individual attention received. Saint Mary's ranked in the top five categories of leaders of tomorrow, best overall and most innovative in Maclean's magazine 1998 national survey. http://www.smu.ca/
About Mount Allison:
There's something for everyone at Mount Allison. In addition to our excellent academic programs, we have over 140 student clubs and groups, 11 varsity sports teams, and one of the strongest intramural programs in Canada. We also have a unique program designed to develop leadership skills, a great independent student newspaper, a student council that is directly involved in governance, and cultural events galore. Residence accommodations in one of our unique facilities are guaranteed to every new student. All rooms have wireless high speed Internet access and basic telephone and cable services. Over 50 per cent of our student body lives on campus and, in a recent survey, over 96 per cent of students said they would recommend residence life at Mount A. http://www.mta.ca/index.shtml
