Jim Janousek, Service Learning Coordinator at the park, used a handheld Sony UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) running the IOCOM Visual Communication software to lead the students on a ninety minute walkthrough of the park. During the tour, Mr. Janousek gave a demonstration and presentation about the park to the students.
St. Mary's is a participating school in the IOCOM Removing Boundaries Project. In late 2007, IOCOM invited K-12 schools to submit one-page proposals for a distance learning project. Selected schools received free software and support for the duration of the project. IOCOM also offered use of any special equipment necessary for the project.

The North Mountain Park Nature Center is located in North Mountain Park, located in Ashland, OR. The nature center is housed in a renovated early 20th century farmhouse and features a discovery room, reference library, and rotating exhibits. Current exhibits focus on pioneer history and the modern industries — farming, ranching, fruit, and logging - that grew out of their influence. The center also hosts a number of community programs, meetings and workshops.
